n partnership with the County Government of Busia, the Ministry of East African Community (MEAC), the NEPAD/APRM Kenya Secretariat, and the Cross-Border Trade Women Association (CBTWA), the WEE Hub organized a one-day workshop on May 16, 2025, at Farmview Hotel in Busia to raise awareness on Agenda 2063 & trade opportunities for traders in Busia County. The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders engaged in cross-border trade, gender equality, regional integration, and economic empowerment.

The workshop covered key topics including Agenda 2063 – The Africa We Want, trade opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for women and youth, and the Simplified Trade Regime (STR). These discussions aimed to empower participants with knowledge and tools to harness regional trade frameworks for inclusive economic growth and gender-responsive development. This was part of ongoing efforts to build the capacity of women cross-border traders, enhance their participation in regional trade frameworks, and domesticate Agenda 2063 at the grassroots level. Childcare project research findings from its study on the ‘Effects of accessing affordable and quality childcare on women’s economic empowerment (WEE)’ were also shared.
