AWSC Side Event at the Africa Climate Summit 2023 - 9th September 2023
The African Women Studies Centre (AWSC) side event at the Africa Climate Summit 2023 organized in partnership with the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA), and the Commonwealth Secretariat was held on September 8, 2023.
The Event themed Empower Women to Overcome Threats and Climate-Aggravated Vulnerabilities took place at the KICC, the venue for the Africa Climate Week 2023.
The event was attended by delegates from diverse parts of Africa and beyond. A powerful panel discussion on the topic was moderated by Mr. Mohammed Nbou, Director of United Cities and Local Governments Africa, and featured the following leaders;
- Dr. Ruth Katttamuri Senior Director of the Economic, Youth, and Sustainable Development Directorate at the Commonwealth Secretariat.
- Professor Wanjiku Kabira-Director AWSC and UoN WEE Hub Leader
- Prof. Margaret Kobia- Adjunct Prof and Program Lead Climate Action, Environment and Biodiversity, UoN AWSC
- Rohey Malik Lowe, Mayor of the City of Banjul in the Gambia and President of REFELA( Network of the Locally Elected Women in Africa)
