Emilly Owiti-Communication, Policy Advocacy and Knowledge Management
Emilly Owiti is a Strategic Communication, Policy Advocacy and Knowledge Management professional and Researcher at the UoN WEE Hub a part-time Lecturer at the University of Nairobi Faculty of Business and Management Science, department of Business Administration. She is a PhD candidate of Project Management at the University of Nairobi specializing in Project Design, Planning, and Implementation. Emily’s research interest spans project communication, knowledge management with specific interests in leadership, women’s economic empowerment, gender, water and sanitation, marketing and behavior change communication. She has taught communication, strategic project management, project monitoring and evaluation and leadership at the Management University of Africa and the Kenya Institute of Management. At the Hub she has supported the development of the communication strategy and its implementation and building the Hub’s profile as a thought leader in WEE research.
Emilly is a member of the Steering Committee of the CBI Netherlands WEE Project in Kenya where she has played an integral role in the design and planning of the project and continues to support its implementation, CBI is an Agency of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and part of the development cooperation effort of the foreign relations of the Netherlands.
She is a policy advocate and member the Kenya National Advocacy Coalition on Women’s Economic Empowerment and the Communications Technical Working Group at WeProsper; a global WEE coalition. She has contributed to the development of communication strategies and the amplification of the girl’s and women’s voices through the use evidence from WEE research globally. Emilly was part of the Kenyan scholars involved in the Technical cooperation and coordination for strengthening resilience building capacities through design, planning and implementation of resilience-building efforts by identifying and bringing together combinations of Safety Nets, Disaster Risk Reduction, Early Warning, and Preparedness programmes through three-pronged approach (3PA) in East Africa.
Emilly is an adept communicator and a member of Toastmasters International https://www.toastmasters.org/about a global organization that has helped her sharpen her leadership, communication and public speaking skills. She has held various leadership positions ranging from Club Vice President of Public Relations for two successive terms, Club President and currently serving as the Area Director supporting four online Toastmasters Clubs, two of which are bilingual. She completed Effective Coaching pathway in the Toastmasters learning program and presently concluding her second path in Dynamic Leadership. During the period she also served as the Chair, Club Leadership Committee and member of the District Leadership Committee and currently a member of the District Executive Committee (eight countries represented), District Council, Division Council and Chair of the Area Council. Emilly is a passionate scholar who has mentored peers and students to thrive in scholarship and leadership.
