The University of Nairobi, African Women Studies Centre hosted a high-level consultation with women in leadership from both public and private sectors in Kenya at the Swiss-Belinn Hotel on October 2, 2024. This event took place against the backdrop of ongoing efforts to address the persistent gender gap in leadership roles within the field of economics. Despite significant strides toward inclusivity, women remain underrepresented in positions of influence and authority. Their continued underrepresentation raises critical questions: What barriers are hindering women's advancement in this discipline? How do societal norms, institutional biases, and workplace dynamics shape their experiences, career pathways, and overall progress?
