Women’s Economic Empowerment Hub Launches Fish Value Addition Training Program in Kisumu County
The WEE Hub’s Women in Business Incubation Project has taken yet another significant step by launching a technology training program on value addition to fish. The program conducted in Kisumu County aims to equip women with the skills necessary to preserve fish and increase its shelf life, benefiting traders dealing in both small fish (locally known as ‘omena’) as well as big fish.

The training program conducted on two women’s groups will see participants learn effective preservation techniques such as drying and canning to extend the shelf life of fish, thus maximizing their profits
It also emphasizes the importance of maintaining hygienic conditions during the handling and processing of fish, ultimately preventing contamination and ensuring consumer safety.
Kisumu County Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o graced the event on Friday, 12th May 2023 at KIRDI (Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute) Western Region Center in Kisumu.
Governor Nyongo lauded the WEE Hub under Professor Wanjiku Kabira for its continued efforts to empower women economically and encouraged participants to dream big, emphasizing the immense potential the fish business holds.
